How to Successfully Navigate the Spring Time Change (Daylight Savings)

Time changes can be incredibly painful for some families while others take it in stride.

During this time change we all LOSE one hour of sleep for daylight savings. Below is our advice on how to adjust your family’s sleep to the new time.

For the spring (a little trickier), we recommend waiting until the weekend and doing a more dramatic time shift. You would do this over 2-3 days by:

  • Waking your children 15 minutes earlier on Friday and move the rest of their schedule earlier by 15 minutes as well.

  • On Saturday wake them an additional 30 minutes earlier and adjust the rest of their schedule to be 30 minutes as well.

  • On Sunday be sure to wake them up at their normal wakeup time and the rest of their schedule should be adjusted to the normal time as well.

Alternatively, you can wait until Saturday to move things up by 30 minute and Sunday to make the change to their normal schedule.

Older children and toddlers can usually manage time changes rather well while babies sometimes take a bit longer to adjust because of their multiple naps.

Happy Sleeping!
